Q & A

Q. What Type of Business is the Liminal House?

A. The Liminal House is a Georgia 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We hope to grow in 3 Stages.

Q. WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE LIMINAL HOUSE?

A. The Liminal House is dedicated to encouraging people, primarily parents of school age children, to see end of life as a natural, inevitable milestone. A milestone to proactively learn and prepare for.  Through inclusive, nonjudgmental, modern, reflective, comfortable - death positive experiences, we want to minimize stress, pain, confusion, burden, and regret.

Q. WHAT IS THE VISION OF THE LIMINAL HOUSE?

A. The Liminal House sees 2 problems with the end-of-life experience. 1) Most people are not prepared to die and 2) there are few neutral places to die. Our solution for problem 1 is to create space. Spaces where people can be proactive about end of life decision making and planning. The hope is to minimize stress, pain, confusion, regret, and burden.  Our solution for problem 2 is to raise funds for the construction and support of a physical, neutral space where people can spend their last days with their loved ones. An alternative to dying in an institution or at home, while still offering support and personalized care.

Q. What is DEATH POSITIVE/DEATH AWARENESS?

A. Death Positive means you accept and acknowledge death as something not to be feared but as part of the normal cycle of life. Death Awareness is similar to Sex Education in that I am presenting certain facts about Death and Dying. Death Awareness is an all inclusive conversation. Because there are two things we all have in common: 1) the desire to Live and 2) we are all going to Die.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit more about the founder?

A. Ella Rose Bailey who is originally from NYC, now resides in Georgia. She attended The College of New Rochelle, in New Rochelle, N.Y., and graduated with a Bachelors in the Science of Nursing. Trailing between NY and Georgia, her nursing experience has been primarily with Medical / Surgical patients. Today, she works in a dialysis clinic near her home in Georgia. She has always been comfortable with death and dying, but soon after her divorce she became more active in preparing for it. She claims her 3 kids are her biggest reason for preparing. When asked about her mission, she said, “ With over 25 + years of RN experience, I still find it difficult to witness people struggling, while making decisions for their dying loved ones. It’s time to ease that burden.”
